Blarney Castle, Ireland
Blarney Castle was originally a timber hunting lodge built in the 10th century, which was replaced by
a stone castle in 1210.
The world famous Blarney Stone is situated high up in the battlements of the castle
The stone was given to Cormac McCarthy by Robert the Bruce in 1314 in return for his support in
the Battle of Bannockburn.
You can acquire the gift of eloquence by kissing the stone, but you may run into 2 hour lineups!
Mitchelstown Cave Entrance & Inside
Mitchelstown Cave is an underground wonder. Mitchelstown Cave is considered one of the
most spectacular caves in Europe. Visitors and group outings are shown daily through
almost half a mile of this world famous show cave, which includes three massive
caverns. Millions of years ago the cave began to form
when streams started sinking underground creating channels in the
limestone. After the great Ice Age great torrents of water were released, these in turn
gouged out the large passage ways that we see today. The only change inside the
cave is the slow growth of stalactites and stalagmites.
The cave is very much as it was found, except for
the facilities of handrails, lights and pathways.
Kinsale
Kinsale is a gourmet center located 30 mins. from Cork. Even the casual visitor to
Kinsale is captivated by its beautiful setting, with its long waterfront,
narrow winding streets, and slate-clad houses.
The bulk of Compass Hill rises sharply behind the town, overlooking
a large natural harbour of great beauty where the Bandon river turns
south to enter the sea.
Kilkenny Castle, Kilkenny
The imposing ancestral castle of the Ormonde Butlers stands in the
south-east corner of the medieval city of Kilkenny in a magnificent
location over the River Nore.
The castle has served as a princely residence for
over eight centuries and played a major role in the country's history. I found the main hall worth the visit alone
with it's outstanding tapestries and paintings.
